Behind the Scenes

Crafting everything by ethically USA sourced leather and fur in my own home gives me a sense of accomplishment. Many, many hours go into each piece whether it is leather or fur. I design everything in my mind first, then draw onto paper, then lay out the appropriate pattern and cut to fit.

For leather, tooling the design onto leather is tedious and makes me question just at what age will arthritis really start to set in? Painting concludes of mixing colors to get exactly the hue I had in mind, and dirtying multiple brushes until I am satisfied. Finishing touches like edges, sewing, or protective coats also take quality time but add such value!

Sewing together tanned fur or hides for various projects has me replaying "hello Clarice" often in my head... just kidding, to a degree. But using the fur from animals that were harvested for conservational purposes is right up my alley and makes me appreciate the time and effort the hunter took even more! I stand firm on conservation for wildlife, as it is the job of all mankind to manage and protect everything that has been created!

Be fruitful and multiply and fill the earth and subdue it, and have dominion over the fish of the sea and over the birds of the heavens and over every living thing that moves on earth.
